Work with OGAL

Finding someone you can trust to hand over your company’s online success to is a big deal. To help you see if we’ll be a good fit together, here’s a bit about how we work.

Hey, I’m Kyle…

Kyle Van Deusen

Owner, OGAL Web Design

I get it: finding someone you can trust to hand over your company’s online success to is a big deal. To help you see if we’ll be a good fit together, here’s a bit about me.

After 15 years as a graphic designer in the sign and print industry, I started OGAL Web Design in 2017.

Over the years I’ve built websites for companies big and small in a variety of industries, but through my work running a 7,000+ member web agency owner’s community, The Admin Bar, I’ve found my sweet-spot working with tech companies, specifically those that have products or services aimed at WordPress users.

This unique combination of experience has given me the privilege of working with companies like Termageddon, the world’s leading privacy policy generator, and people like Joost de Valk, founder of Yoast SEO.

When it comes to building websites, I take a minimalist’s approach. This ensures your project is well-organized and your website loads quickly, adheres to coding best practices, considers accessibility in every facet, and is optimized to perform well in search engines. I believe these are the kinds of things that give users a great experience and make it easy for Google to recommend your website over your competitors.

My personal mission is to improve the reputation of the web industry by promoting transparency, providing quality work at fair prices, and sharing educational resources. This applies to my role as an agency owner, where I love to educate clients to help them make informed decisions; as well as my leadership in The Admin Bar, where I strive to inspire, educate, and support other agency owners in improving their quality of work and growing their business.

On a personal note, I’ve been married since 2007 to my beautiful wife, a licensed professional counselor who owns and operates her private practice, and we have 3 children together; Owen, who’s a geek for all things tech (like me), Avery, our fierce competitor and athlete, and Alex, our baby girl who can do no wrong.

Introduction Call. In this brief Zoom meeting, we’ll discuss what you’re trying to achieve and get to know each other a bit to see if we’re a good fit to work together.

Estimate. Based on our introduction call, I’ll follow up (via email) with a rough ballpark on price and timeline for your project based on past experience and what you’re trying to achieve. You can then decide if you’d like to continue the conversation with no strings attached.

Project Discovery. We’ll schedule a project discovery call to go over all the specifics and details about your project so we can determine the necessary functionalities, scope, structure, assets, legal requirements, and key performance indicators that will make your project successful.

Proposal. With the roadmap for your project outlined from our discovery call, I’ll provide you with a detailed proposal that includes all the deliverables and scope of work, along with a price and timeline. for completion.

Project Kickoff. We’ll meet again to discuss the roles and responsibilities we’ll both have to get the project moving forward, as well as account for all the assets needed (like written content, images, etc.) as we move into the next phase.

Design & Development. We work methodically and iteratively though the design and development phase, giving you regular updates and opportunities to review our work as we go. You can expect, at minimum, weekly updates — but in most cases we’ll be communicating back and forth several times each week.

Testing & Quality Assurance. Once you’ve approved all of the deliverables, we’ll put your project through our testing and quality assurance procedures. Our process takes up to 2 days to complete and includes over 50 tests to ensure your website meets our stringent standards.

Launch. Once your website is ready, and the final balance has been paid — we’ll get your website live on your domain. After it’s published, we’ll put it through a second set of tests for quality assurance and you’ll have 30-days to make revisions or changes.

Aftercare. The secret to having a successful website is having a website that’s well-maintained. Our website management services can take care of all of this for you, or we can supply you with detailed instructions on how to handle website care yourself.

Communication

Effective communication is of great importance to us, as we understand it is to you as well.

We will have a few Zoom meetings throughout your project, however, most of our communication will be conducted asynchronously through email. This approach allows us to maintain a written record of our discussions, minimizing the potential for miscommunication.

Our goal is to respond to any of your emails within 8 business hours from Monday to Friday. You can expect regular communication from us throughout the project as we have questions or need to review our work.

Additionally, a project status update will be provided to you every Friday, which will include details on the progress made that week, the current status of the project and the plan for the next week.

Phone or Zoom meetings can be scheduled at any point during the project, however, all real-time communication must be arranged in advance.

Each project is different, so we’ll provide you with an estimated timeline after our first call, and a detailed timeline breakdown inside of your proposal.

Throughout the project you’ll receive a weekly update on the project’s status, including any adjustments to the schedule, to ensure you’re always aware of the status of your project.

No Surprise Charges

Our pricing is determined by a combination of factors such as project complexity, overall scope, deadlines and specific deliverables. Each project is quoted individually to cater to unique needs.

We can provide an estimated or “ballpark” price after our initial consultation, however, a more detailed quote can only be given after a comprehensive project discovery call. We make every effort to provide an accurate quote that takes into account all the necessary elements for a successful project.

It’s natural, however, to need to make changes to the scope or deliverables after the project is underway — so we plan for that ahead of time.

We have a change request process in place for any adjustments to the scope or deliverables of the project. Any modifications to the quoted price will be communicated and agreed upon before proceeding with the work.

You can be assured that there will be no unexpected charges or invoices — ever.

To give you some sense of our pricing, our project minimum for custom website design & development projects is $3,500 and our average project price in 2022 was $7,935.

Our ongoing website management services come at three price points; $75/mo, $99/mo, and $179/mo depending on your needs.

Customer Service

Other professions (like general contractors, realtors, and even beauticians) have to pass qualification tests and be licensed to operate — but the web industry doesn’t have a set of standards that regulate the quality of websites.

Anyone can be a web developer, and too many business owners have learned the hard way that not everyone should be.

At OGAL, we’ve based our personal standards on the top 1% of websites by developing a stringent inspection procedure and requiring 3rd-party peer review on all of our projects.

Does this mean your website will be perfect? Of course not, but we’ll always strive to get as close to perfect as humanly possible.

Your carbon footprint might not be your first concern when you go to have a website built, but the truth is, every byte of data has an impact on our environment.

At OGAL, we’ve made a public commitment to consider the environmental impact of all our projects. To meet this goal, we’ve modified how we plan, build, and maintain websites to reduce their environmental impact and pledge to global reforestation efforts at a minimum of 300% of what it takes to operate our business.

You can read more about our sustainability pledge here.

Customer service is the beating heart of any successful business — and it’s more than just providing answers to questions. It’s about building a relationship founded on trust, transparency, integrity and respect.

Our 5-star reviews say a lot, but the best compliment we’ve ever received was from Andrew Collings, an OGAL client since 2019, who said:

“As always, you’re my North Star guide in customer service. When I get an inquiry/issue/request that a customer brings up, I ask myself: how would Kyle respond to this?”

If we can’t make you feel just like Andrew, then we don’t deserve your business.
